The duration means... ... the lengh of each sound (how long it is). A song can be very different lenghs nad most music combines long and short sounds. ... how loud or quiet a piece of music is. This can be also called volume. Music usually has a mixture of loud and quiet.

The timbre means... ... that every instrument has its own particular sound depending on what it is made of. ... that a metal instrument will have the same sound than a wooden instrument that is blown. The word 'timbre' doesn't exist.
