Fan Air Valve This valve controls the cold airflow bled from the fan exhaust which passes through the precooler in order to regulate the temperature of engine compressor bleed air. The fan air valve is pneumatically operated, electrically controlled by a torque motor and held in closed position by a return spring. It IS:equipped with a manual override, a visual position indicator, two position indicating switches, test ports and a filter, Fiats on the manual override are provided to lock the valve in closed position using a wrench. The air required to actuate the valve is bled from the air bleed duct upstream of the pressure regulator valve. This air supply pressure, limited by a relief valve, is regulated at a constant level to permit valve butterfly opening. Air supply presure is controlled by the torque motor, itself controlled by pneumatic system controller 41HA (42HA) depending on the temperature of air detected in the duct by temperature control sensor 53HA (54HA), downstream of the precooler. When power is not supplied to the torque motor, the valve is fully open. When electrical power is supplied to the torque motor, the valve tends to close.
